Duty or Love
Ps 119:30¶
I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before
me
Ps 119:173¶ Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy
precepts.
Ps 119:174 I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is
my delight.
Is it your
delight to read the word of God or do you do it out of duty????
It was the Psalmist delight to mediate on the law of God, Because
he had received Salvation from the Lord. His souls was made alive
by God's Spirit, and it was now his responsiableity to praise the
Lord. Thy law is my delight, Studying the word of God is like
eating a good piece of cake and ice-cream. Religion can decay or
flourish as it is our duty or our delight.
Once a man went to New York City, and as he was walking down the
street he was look up at all the tall building and smiling and
pointing at things that over whelmed him and he turned to notice
that people around him had started doing the same thing. I
challenge you to walk down the street of your town and try it. and
see if it does work. If we as Christians walk around down in the
dumps all the time people around us will tend to be down in the
dumps. But if you delight in the word of the Lord and his precepts
and you go around happy all the time , (Not just when you feel
like it) But even in the face of trouble, if you or your wife has
cancer do you get down in the mouth so that everyone around you
will join in with your suffering. It is about the same as when you
fast, Jesus said, When you fast wash your face clean up like your
are going to a wedding or something, don't let people know of your
fast, God sees and knows everything you are going through. He
knows all your burdens. and he will help you through them if you
will just trust him with them.
The psalmist here delighted himself in the word of the Lord, and
spontaneously, joyously, and purposefully engrossed himself in
God's Holy Word. If you go around praising the Lord, others will
get the message too.
And OH! Yes, there is one more thing, You can go around always
praising the Lord, But your life must reflect that same praise. If
you are talking the talk you must be walking the walk to have any
effect on others.
